New Restrictions Kick in as Delhi Battles Pollution in Winter
The plan adds 50% work-from-home rules, doubled parking charges and year-round fuel checks for vehicles without valid pollution certificates.
On Sunday, November 1, 2026, Delhi implemented "special restrictions" to curb winter air pollution, including a mandatory 50% work-from-home policy for government and private offices and doubled parking fees at authorized sites.
These measures, including a ban on dust-generating construction and non-Delhi-registered vehicles below BS-VI norms, will remain in place through January 31, while parking rate hikes continue until February 28.
To reduce traffic congestion, Delhi government offices function from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Municipal Corporation of Delhi offices from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., alongside a year-round fuel ban for vehicles lacking a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate.
Special enforcement teams will monitor compliance using AI-enabled Integrated Command and Control Centre cameras, though essential services, public infrastructure projects, and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation parking sites remain exempt from the new regulations.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated authorities will request citizens to follow these directions until Deepavali to minimize inconvenience, as the region addresses air quality that recently slipped into the "poor" category.
