Gill’s 84 Leads India to Rain-Affected ODI Win over Afghanistan
On Saturday, Skipper Shubman Gill scored 84 not out to lead India to a seven-wicket victory over Afghanistan in a rain-affected one-day international reduced to 25 overs per side.
Afghanistan recovered from 54-7 as Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 102 off 51 balls, the second-fastest ODI century against India, before Nitish Reddy bowled him in the 16th over.
India's debutants impressed; pacer Gurnoor Brar took 3-27 and left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey claimed 3-47, including dismissals of Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai.
Chasing 194, India lost Rohit Sharma for 16, but Gill hit 11 fours and two sixes alongside Lokesh Rahul, who added 39 not out off 19 balls.
India leads the three-match bilateral ODI series 1-0; the teams head to Lucknow for the second match on Wednesday, with the final ODI scheduled for June 20 in Chennai.
