Federal agents arrested nine vendors selling counterfeit goods during an intelligence-led operation that temporarily cleared Canal Street's sidewalks, officials said.

- Officials linked the sweep to intelligence and recent viral videos after at least two conservative influencers posted footage of counterfeit sales on Canal Street, Chinatown.
- Agents at times used physical force and crowd-control measures, shoving protesters and pressing vendors, including African sellers, for passports and immigration status soon.
- On Wednesday, Canal Street was noticeably quieter and sparsely populated by sellers, with sidewalks largely empty of illegal vendors and tourists noting missing stalls.
- Advocates and elected officials condemned the operation and called for answers as Mayor Eric Adams and the NYPD said they had no involvement and do not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.
