Canadiens Captain Nick Suzuki to Return From Hand Injury Against Mammoth
Cole Caufield scored 30 seconds into overtime as Montreal erased three Utah leads and got three points from Nick Suzuki in his return.
On Thursday, captain Nick Suzuki returned to the Montreal Canadiens lineup and recorded one goal and two assists as Montreal defeated the Utah Mammoth 5-4 in overtime at the Bell Centre.
Following Tuesday's historic collapse against the Winnipeg Jets—when Montreal blew a 4-0 lead with 2:39 remaining—the team sought immediate redemption. The loss marked the latest four-goal comeback in NHL history.
Cole Caufield scored the overtime winner, his 11th goal of the season, while Suzuki won 55 per cent of his faceoffs during 20 minutes of ice time. Kirby Dach and Adam Engstrom also scored their first goals of the season.
Utah Mammoth forward Logan Cooley recorded a hat trick, becoming the fastest active player to reach five career hat tricks in 228 games, besting Alex Ovechkin. Cooley added an assist in the loss.
Montreal travels to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, while the Utah Mammoth visit the Ottawa Senators the same day. Both teams continue their November schedules after this matchup.
The debate began in the media and on social media several hours before the Thursday night game between the Canadian and the Mammoth at the Bell Centre.
