Cousins Scores Late to Lift Senators Past Mammoth 4-2
Nick Cousins snapped a 2-2 tie with 2:18 left, and Samuel Ersson made 30 saves for Ottawa.
Nick Cousins redirected a Thomas Chabot shot with 2:18 remaining on Saturday to lift the Ottawa Senators to a 4-2 victory over the Utah Mammoth in front of a sellout crowd of 17,054 at the Canadian Tire Centre.
Saturday's contest marked the Senators' first home date following a five-game road trip where they went 2-2-1, while the Mammoth concluded their own five-game road swing with an identical 2-2-1 record.
Fabian Zetterlund and Michael Amadio scored for Ottawa, while Clayton Keller and Barrett Hayton netted goals for the Mammoth as goaltender Samuel Ersson stopped 30 shots.
Shane Pinto celebrated his 300th NHL career game with an empty-net goal, while Ersson made two key saves in the final 62 seconds to secure the victory.
The Mammoth played a solid road game but could not capitalize on their scoring chances, falling to the Senators in the final contest of their five-game trip.
