London (dpa) - A Japanese company plans to launch a small, low-cost electric car, popularly known as the "Kei," in Japan next year. Details of the new car, such as its driving range, price, and appearance, have yet to be revealed. The British newspaper, the Financial Times, said that selling smaller models of cars presents a good opportunity for BYD to gain a share of Japan's small electric car market, which is estimated to be worth $18 billion.

The BYD Group has partnered with several charging operators to deploy a massive network of ultra-fast charging stations with megawatts of power across China.

Even smaller than Japan's Kei cars, KG Motors' Mibot could overshadow Toyota. Deliveries are expected in 2027, a few months after the arrival of another microcar from a certain BYD.
