Interviewed by BFMTV and RMC on Tuesday, May 27, François Bayrou called for an "effort for all French" to redress public finances, opening the door to a "social VAT", while remaining evasive on his budgetary choices to find 40 billion euros of savings.

In order to reduce the debt, François Bayrou wanted "an effort by all the French." This was enough to give credit to those parliamentarians who campaigned to contain the expenditure of 2026 at the level of 2025.

On Tuesday, May 27, the Prime Minister promised to present a "plan" on finance at "three or four years" for July. He took the opportunity to distance himself from Emmanuel Macron and Gabriel Attal on the issue of Islam.

This Tuesday morning, the Prime Minister announced a comprehensive plan for the recovery of public finances, the details of which will be known in July.

The Prime Minister intends to present a budget plan by July 14, "in a transparent manner."
