BBC Radio 2 presenter Paul Gambaccini diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease
The broadcaster said he will keep hosting his radio shows and thanked listeners for support after sharing the diagnosis.
77-Year-Old broadcaster Paul Gambaccini confirmed his Alzheimer's diagnosis, stating he will continue hosting his weekly shows on BBC Radio 2 and Greatest Hits Radio despite the condition.
Gambaccini, diagnosed in early 2025, has hosted programs across BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, and 4 for decades. He quoted Freddie Mercury: "you can't turn back the clock, you can't turn back the tide."
Head of Radio 2 Helen Thomas pledged continued support, sending "love and best wishes." Richard Angell, chief executive of the Terrence Higgins Trust where Gambaccini has been patron for more than 30 years, praised his impact on HIV perceptions.
Gambaccini and his husband, Christopher Sherwood, are receiving support from the Alzheimer's Society. CEO Michelle Dyson said his openness encourages others to seek treatment and support.
Alzheimer's, the most common type of dementia, affects one in three people born today in the UK. The Alzheimer's Society emphasizes that early diagnosis opens doors to treatment and support.
