Breton language: the number of speakers halved in six years, more than 107,000 people speak the language

The number of people speaking Breton is in decline, as for Gallo. But the average age of speakers is falling, according to a study published on Monday.

There are only 107,000 people left who speak Breton, according to the latest study commissioned by the Brittany region and unveiled on January 20. This is half as much as the last study, which was in 2018. But the speakers are younger. Gallo is also falling, but less strongly.
