Wisconsin governor candidate says her campaign has far less money than she thought
Rodriguez said unpaid invoices and accounting errors left her campaign with hundreds of thousands of dollars less than expected, forcing a manager’s firing and a report review.
Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial candidate Sara Rodriguez announced Monday that her campaign has far less cash than expected after ads slated to run last week failed to air due to unpaid invoices.
After discovering contributions were double-counted and expenses undercounted, Rodriguez fired her campaign manager late Sunday, resulting in the campaign having far less money than previously thought.
Notifying the Wisconsin Ethics Commission on Monday, Rodriguez said her campaign raised about $1 million and had about $200,000 cash on hand while correcting reports filed last year.
Democratic challenger Joel Brennan called the financial errors "disqualifying," while Rodriguez vowed to remain in the race despite the accounting discrepancies.
Rodriguez's next financial report is due Wednesday, preceding the Aug. 11 primary where the winner will advance to face Republican Rep. Tom Tiffany in the general election.
