Children Injured After Tree Falls at Activity Centre
One child was airlifted to hospital and six others were taken to Royal Surrey Hospital after the tree collapse, officials said.
On Monday at approximately 1:40 PM, a tree collapsed at the PGL Activity Centre on Marchants Hill in Hindhead, injuring several children who required emergency medical attention.
The Marchants Hill site is a popular destination for school excursions, offering activities such as climbing, zip-lining, and canoeing that frequently draw visiting groups.
One child was airlifted to a London hospital with a serious leg injury, while six others were transported to Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford with less critical injuries; an additional eleven received on-site treatment.
Farnham and Bordon MP Gregory Stafford confirmed a "serious accident" occurred and praised the emergency services' "swift and professional response," while PGL Travel Limited stated the safety of children remained its "utmost priority."
In 2023, Waverley Borough Council fined PGL Travel Limited £1 million after two children sustained "significant injuries" during a previous incident, providing historical context to the facility's safety record.
