British woman jailed for falsely accusing banker of rape in Hong Kong
Judge Adriana Noelle Tse Ching said Rose demanded £100,000 and showed no remorse after a six-day trial.
- On Wednesday, Hong Kong District Court Judge Adriana Noelle Tse Ching sentenced British tourist Isabel Rose, 26, to six years in prison for blackmail and perverting the course of justice.
- Rose falsely accused a banker of rape in 2024, leading to his arrest; prosecutors said she exploited the man's "kindness, naivety, friendship and romantic interest" to demand $134,060.
- Evidence revealed Rose demanded "escalating amounts of money" from the man during their acquaintance, while Judge Tse described the banker as an "honest, credible and reliable witness" and Rose as "dishonest, uncredible and unreliable."
- Judge Tse handed down five years for blackmail and three years for perverting justice, with one year served consecutively, noting Rose has "not shown an iota of remorse for her wicked behaviour."
- Rose was sent to Tai Lam Correctional Institution to serve her term, following authorities' confirmation that her initial rape claim was "duly investigated" and found to be false.
