Austin FC Fire Coach Nico Estevez, Sporting Director Rodolfo Borrell
Austin FC made the change after a 3-6-4 start and a club-record 5-0 loss, with Davy Arnaud named interim head coach.
On Monday, Austin FC fired head coach Nico Estevez and sporting director Rodolfo Borrell following a rocky start to the 2026 season. The club announced the leadership changes after winning just three of its first 14 matches.
Austin sits 13th in the Western Conference at 3-6-5 after losing 2-1 to Sporting Kansas City on Saturday. The team remains winless in its past three matches, well out of playoff contention.
Majority owner Anthony Precourt said the leadership change was necessary to "achieve our goals of qualifying for the playoffs this year and becoming a consistent winner in this league." Precourt also called Estevez a "trusted ambassador for Austin FC."
Assistant coach Davy Arnaud was named interim head coach for Saturday's match against St. Louis City SC. The league begins a 60-day midseason pause after this week's games, giving Austin time to search for permanent replacements.
This marks the second MLS coaching change within 24 hours; the Columbus Crew dismissed coach Henrik Rydstrom on Sunday. The Crew sits 13th in the Eastern Conference, signaling broader struggles across the league.
Austin FC fired Spanish coach Nico Estévez and sports director Rodolfo Borrell on Monday, with the team near the bottom of the MLS position table and only one season after returning to the playoffs.
