- On Thursday, African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar appointed Senator Augustine Okwudiri Akobundu as Director-General of the party's Presidential Campaign Council, also naming former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman.
- Akobundu, a retired Nigerian Army Colonel, brings extensive legislative and administrative experience to the role, having previously served as Minister of State for Defence under President Goodluck Jonathan and currently representing Abia Central Senatorial District.
- The campaign council features six operational directorates, each managed by a Deputy Director-General with 30 directors assigned to specific responsibilities; former Edo State Governor John Oyegun will chair the Campaign Advisory Council, while veteran journalist Dele Momodu oversees Media and Communications.
- While El-Rufai remains in custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission , Atiku appointed him to the council to manage high-level political coordination and stakeholder engagement.
- According to Strategic Communication Director Phrank Shaibu, the campaign structure aims for lean, measurable outcomes to ensure all arms of the party work together with discipline and proper coordination ahead of the 2027 elections.
