Boy, 3, seriously injured in zoo's crocodile enclosure undergoes five surgeries and faces more, family says
The boy has undergone five surgeries and needs at least two more, while a fundraiser for his recovery has topped 25,000 pounds.
On June 18, a three-year-old boy was allegedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons of Old Hurst in Cambridgeshire, falling 15ft and sustaining serious injuries before being rescued by zoo staff.
Co-Owner Tracey Johnson jumped into the enclosure to help rescue the child as emergency services, including the MAGPAS Air Ambulance, arrived within minutes; police subsequently arrested a 30-year-old man from Norfolk on suspicion of attempted murder.
The toddler has undergone five surgeries at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and requires at least two more operations, including nerve reconstruction in his arm, his family revealed.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than £25,000 to support the family, who said they are "living at the hospital" during recovery and expressed they are "extremely grateful for everyone's generosity."
While the boy remains stable, his parents note his rehabilitation journey is "uncertain" and "won't be a short process," highlighting the lengthy recovery ahead despite community support.
