Tom Homan revealed plans to reduce federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota following fatal encounters and community backlash amid Operation Metro Surge.
- On Thursday, Tom Homan, President Donald Trump's border czar, held his first Minnesota news conference after arriving at the president's request and said ICE and CBP are working on a drawdown plan as he stays until the situation is resolved.
- The deployment followed Operation Metro Surge, launched in December and called the largest enforcement operation, after two fatal shootings and Greg Bovino's removal from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
- Homan met with Gov. Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her to discuss de-escalation while federal agents involved in Alex Pretti's shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
- Homan tied a drawdown to reduced violence and local agreements, saying resources will be cut once violence decreases and agreements with Governor Tim Walz and the Minnesota attorney general are reached, while Frey's office called it a step in the right direction.
