In response to German border controls, Poland also controls its border crossings. The Federal Minister of the Interior welcomes the action of the neighbour "explicitly".
The Federal Government's Polish representative, Abraham, warned against the negative effects of controls at the German-Polish border, which were always a hindrance, even if efforts were made to keep the effects as low as possible. The Federal Ministry of the Interior supports the Polish controls.
The procedure for rejecting asylum seekers at borders, as prescribed by Germany's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, has so far had little effect. In the first seven weeks, only 38 asylum seekers were refused when they tried to enter Austria.
Since Monday, the borders have been controlled on the Polish side – for the time being until August 5. Knut Abraham is the new Polish coordinator of the Federal Government. For him, border controls are not a long-term solution in migration policy.
