Bondi Hero Denies Assaulting Father
The 44-year-old has denied wrongdoing as he faces one count of common assault and one of stalking or intimidation.
On Wednesday, Bondi hero Ahmed al Ahmed appeared at Bankstown Local Court, entering not guilty pleas to charges of assaulting and stalking his father during an alleged March incident at a Bankstown home.
Ahmed rose to global fame last December for disarming gunman Sajid Akram during a Bondi Beach terror attack, inspiring nearly 50,000 donors to contribute more than $2.6 million in support.
Brothers Hozifa and Sameh were charged with threatening Ahmed over the donation funds, with a court placing an interim order prohibiting them from going within 100 metres of him or his workplace.
Defence lawyer Mohamad Sakr told reporters Ahmed is "a heroic man and his honesty and dignity should be maintained until these matters are ultimately determined." His father expressed hope the case would soon be resolved.
The proceedings underscore the disparity between Ahmed's public recognition for preventing further deaths during the attack that killed 15 people and the private family disputes now testing his reputation.
