Bolton Green Party Leader Defends 'Zionism Is Racism' Stance as Ultimatum Looms
Polanski said he cannot overturn the motion now, as party rules keep conference decisions in force for two years and could put it in the 2028 manifesto.
On Sunday, Green Party leader Zack Polanski told the BBC he will not overturn his party's "Zionism is racism" motion, though he intends to amend it at the first available opportunity in 2028.
Green Party members passed the motion at their annual conference in Brighton earlier this month, defining Zionism as an ideology supporting "an ethnonationalist Jewish state in historic Palestine to the exclusion and/or domination of the non-Jewish population."
An Ipsos survey found 52 per cent of the public view Polanski unfavourably, up six points since September, while his overall approval rating fell to minus 36, the lowest among national party leaders.
Labour Party chair Bridget Phillipson issued an ultimatum on October 15, demanding local Green groups disavow the motion within seven days or lose power-sharing agreements with Labour councils.
Former leader Caroline Lucas accused Polanski of leadership failure, while Jewish Greens leader Vivien Lichtenstein called for his resignation, saying he made a "big mistake" by missing the debate on the motion.
