Bolton Green Party Leader Defends 'Zionism Is Racism' Stance as Ultimatum Looms
Polanski says he cannot reverse the party’s new policy now, as Labour and Jewish Greens intensify criticism over the motion’s fallout.
On Sunday, Green Party leader Zack Polanski told the BBC he will not attempt to overturn the party's 'Zionism is racism' motion, though he aims to amend it in 2028.
The motion passed at the Green Party's Brighton conference two weeks ago with about 1,000 members voting in favor and some 800 against, describing Zionism as an 'ethnonationalist Jewish state in historic Palestine.'
An Ipsos survey found 52 per cent of the public view Polanski unfavorably, the lowest approval rating of any national leader at minus 36, as Prime Minister Andy Burnham warned Labour will end power-sharing agreements with Green groups unless they reject the motion.
Senior figures including former leader Caroline Lucas and leader of the Jewish Greens Vivien Lichtenstein have called for Polanski's resignation, with the latter describing his leadership as 'untenable' following his absence from the vote.
Polanski confirmed the policy remains binding for two years under party rules, preventing immediate revision, while he refuses to endorse a two-state solution, arguing Israelis and Palestinians should determine their own future.
