Body found near East River Flats Park in Minneapolis identified
Police say the death has no known connection to several other bodies recovered near water in the city this week.
- On Saturday, Minneapolis Police Department and Minneapolis Park Police officers located the body of 56-year-old Karen Sognesand along the Mississippi River near East River Flats Park just after 6 p.m.
- Three bodies were found within three days just a few miles of each other in Minneapolis, with a second discovered Sunday near Bde Maka Ska Lake in severe decomposition and a third Monday near Stone Arch Bridge.
- According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner report, Sognesand's death occurred on Saturday; the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation while MPD stated her death has no known connection to other incidents.
- An MPD spokesperson told The Independent Thursday there is currently no connection between the three Minneapolis cases or to any other incidents, as University of Minnesota police have not released identity details for the Monday body.
- A fourth person was found dead Wednesday under the Hennepin Avenue Bridge in an apparent suicide; separately, the Dakota County Sheriff is investigating 40-year-old Timothy Bryan Standish, found dead Friday in the Mississippi River near Inver Grove Heights about 19 miles from Minneapolis, and those needing mental health support can call 988.
