Small Plane Enroute From Brunswick to Owls Head Crashed in Bristol, Killing the Pilot
Federal investigators will examine the cause after the two-seat aircraft went down with two people aboard, officials said.
- On Thursday, a Diamond DA20 aircraft crashed into Pemaquid Harbor near Fort William Henry in Bristol, Maine, with two people on board.
- The single-engine plane departed Brunswick Airport headed for Knox County Airport and officials suspect it experienced mechanical failure before landing upside down in about 4 feet of water.
- Nearby residents and carpenters working on homes rushed into the water to assist upon witnessing the crash. First responders from the Bristol Fire and Rescue Department and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene.
- Lincoln County Sheriff's Office officials confirmed the pilot died at the scene, while the passenger was transported to Lincoln Hospital Miles Campus in Damariscotta with non-life-threatening injuries.
- The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash. The aircraft is registered to a resident of Lee, New Hampshire.

At 1 p.m., the Lincoln County 911 center received calls of a small plane crash near Fort William Henry in Bristol.
