VANCOUVER ISLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA, AUG 5 – The Wesley Ridge fire remains contained with no new growth threatening the ancient Cathedral Grove forest, while more than 130 wildfires burn across British Columbia, officials said.

- The BC Wildfire Service reported that active fires rose to more than 130 from about 60 in a week after thunderstorms producing over 67,000 lightning strikes, with cooler weather expected to aid efforts.
- Groundcrews and structure protection teams, backed by over 200 firefighters and seven helicopters, patrolled overnight, extinguishing hot spots, according to BC Wildfire Service.
- Evacuation orders cover nearly 390 homes near Cameron Lake and Highway 4, with alerts issued by Thompson Nicola Regional District and First Nations, and warnings against stopping in MacMillan Provincial Park.
- While fire behavior update on Tuesday noted no overnight growth at the northeast corner of the fire near Little Qualicum River Regional Park, smoke remains within the fire perimeter, according to Dahl.
