Political Storm: FIRs Against Sandeep Pathak Spark Accusations of Vendetta
The cases were filed under non-bailable sections over alleged harassment of women and corruption after his switch from Aam Aadmi Party to Bharatiya Janata Party.
On Saturday, Punjab Police registered two non-bailable FIRs against Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, who departed his New Delhi residence shortly before officers arrived.
Pathak recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party alongside six other Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MPs, a move reducing the AAP's strength in the Upper House.
The FIRs involve corruption and harassment charges; Pathak denied awareness, asserting he served the country with "honesty and integrity" throughout his career.
Alleging "political vendetta," Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party Working President Ashwani Sharma and Shiromani Akali Dal leaders condemned the state government for using police as a "political weapon."
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann plans to meet President Droupadi Murmu on May 5 to demand a "recall" of the MPs who joined the BJP.
