Low birth rate but population growing
The number of children born per woman – 1.43 – was the lowest number ever measured last year, according to Statistics Sweden's population statistics. The number of children born was less than 100,000 for the first time since 2003.

A few years ago, it was necessary to register well in advance to give birth in many Czech maternity hospitals. This is no longer the case. In 2024, the fewest children were born in the Czech Republic in history – since 1775, when statistics have been kept. Maternity hospitals are even closing in some places.
