INDIA, AUG 5 – The procurement includes advanced weapon systems and surveillance technologies with at least 70% indigenous content to boost operational readiness, Defence Ministry said.

  • On Tuesday, the Defence Acquisition Council approved about ₹67,000 crore in defence procurement proposals, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
  • Earlier this year, Operation Sindoor included airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan and PoK after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, and last month the Ministry of Defence signed a Rs 2,000 crore radar contract with Bharat Electronics Limited.
  • For all three services, the DAC approved specialized platforms to enhance mobility, ASW and surveillance, including AoN for Thermal Imager night sights for BMP infantry vehicles, CASC, and Mountain Radars.
  • As a result, the armed forces will benefit from long-term maintenance and support for C-17, C-130J fleets, and the S-400 missile system, enhancing operational readiness.
  • Looking forward, these approvals span land, naval, air and unmanned domains, reflecting India’s commitment to modernise defence infrastructure and self-sufficiency.
