Beloved rock band drops out of Rock the Country festival over fan backlash
Shinedown cited fan backlash and their goal to unite audiences as reasons for withdrawal, becoming the fourth artist to leave the festival amid growing controversy.
On Friday, Shinedown announced it will not perform at the Rock the Country Festival in Anderson, South Carolina, citing division concerns.
The festival, an eight-city tour, saw the fourth artist, Shinedown, withdraw after social media backlash presumed it was affiliated with 'Make America Great Again'.
Kerch earlier said on the 'Vinyl Road' podcast that he defended Shinedown’s participation weeks earlier but faced heavy criticism, criticized Ludacris for dropping out, and said the knives come out online.
Friday morning the show was removed from the Rock the Country website and organizers have not responded; the band thanked fans, writing 'We have one BOSS, and it is everyone in the audience.'
The festival runs May to September and is scheduled for seven cities, with headliners Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Jelly Roll, Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, and Nelly.
