Belgian lender KBC Group NV is evaluating a potential acquisition of state-backed Dutch rival ABN Amro Bank NV as it looks at ways to bolster its European footprint, people with knowledge of the matter said.
According to the financial news agency Bloomberg, KBC is exploring a takeover of the Dutch banking group ABN Amro. In an initial response, the Belgian bank-insurer stated that it is only considering the potential acquisition of the insurer Ethias.
