- The protests, held in solidarity with demonstrators at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, previously faced legal scrutiny after Dispur Police Station filed an FIR under 10 sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including acts endangering sovereignty and integrity of India.
- Although USTM Founder Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque was not named as an accused, a sub-inspector's complaint alleged "the mobilisation, transportation, and logistical arrangements for the protest were organised, financed, and facilitated under the directions of Mahbubul Hoque." Hoque dismissed the links.
- Seven people aged 24 to 32 were arrested following the demonstration, which gained prominence after the daughter of Cabinet minister Keshab Mahanta participated and purportedly demanded "justice" from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- Chief Minister Sarma has a history of targeting USTM, having invoked the term "flood jihad" in 2024 while blaming construction work at the Meghalaya-based institution for flash floods in Guwahati, and recently cited it as a threat to the city.
