On Saturday 22 March, a 13-year-old mare was found dead in a meadow in Beaurepaire-en-Bresse, a small town in Saône-et-Loire on the border with Jura, near Lons-le-Saunier. According to the initial findings, the animal was also mutilated. A gendarmerie investigation is under way.

The case recalls the dozens of horse mutilations recorded in 2020 that had caused a wind of panic in the equine environment.
