BC Wildfire Uses Night-Vision Helicopters on Brunswick Complex
BC Wildfire Service has 3 NVIS aircraft working overnight to drop water, find new starts and support 287 firefighters on the complex.
The Brunswick Complex, comprising Ainslie Creek and Brunswick Creek fires, covers 20,153 hectares as of July 17; Highway traffic has resumed with a 26.9 km no-stopping zone between Tuckkwiowhum Road and Jackass Summit.
BCWS maintains 24-hour operations using Night Vision Imaging System technology, allowing crews to drop water, detect new starts, and monitor the Brunswick Complex after dark with three aircraft.
The response includes 287 firefighters, 20 helicopters, 41 pieces of heavy equipment, and 87 structure protection personnel, prioritizing protection of communities and critical infrastructure near the Fraser Canyon.
