B.C. residents urged to prepare for potential wildfire-related evacuations
Fire crews say 1,398 wildfires burned 886,410 hectares last season and urge families to plan for rapid departures.

- During the summer of 2025, evacuation alerts were issued near the Princeton Golf Club due to the August Creek wildfire. Overall, 30 communities faced evacuation orders that year, with 2,670 people displaced across the region.
- Banks advised families to plan in advance, explaining that evacuation alerts serve as pre-warnings while orders require immediate action. He urged residents to keep vehicles fuelled, cautioning, "If we lose power, there's no fuel to be had."
- Moderate drought conditions exist in the Kamloops Fire Centre and western parts of the Cariboo Fire Centre. Record-low snow in valley bottoms increases the likelihood of early-season grass fires in interior valleys.
- In the 2025 to 2026 season, 1,398 wildfires destroyed 886,410 hectares across the province. With past flooding and wildfires causing widespread disruptions, officials stress that preparedness remains essential for people to mitigate future emergencies.
