B.C. releases 1st report on state of primary care as part of deal with Greens

BRITISH COLUMBIA, AUG 8 – Since 2018, nearly 750,000 British Columbians have been connected to primary care providers amid ongoing barriers and $579 million invested in 2024-25, the report shows.

  • Under the Cooperation and Responsible Government Accord 2025, the B.C. NDP government and BC Green caucus released the first of two primary care assessment reports, focusing on community-based services.
  • Since the launch of the Primary Care Strategy in 2018, the report provides an overview of investments aimed at strengthening community health centres and the primary care system.
  • Since opening, the centres have provided more than 3.4 million patient visits, including over 124,000 between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025, and 41 urgent primary care centres operate across the province.
  • The report finds that as of June 2025, 76% of people in British Columbia have a longitudinal primary care provider, while community health centres meet only 38.
  • Future plans include a final report in fall 2025, with the province committing over $672 million for 2025-26 following $579 million in 2024-25.
