EastEnders Star Dies as Tributes Flood In
Tributes poured in for the veteran British TV actor, who played Reverend Stevens on EastEnders for 12 years and Vila Restal in Blake's 7.
Actor Michael Keating, 79, has died. The London-born performer was best known for his long-running role as Reverend Stevens on the BBC soap EastEnders and as the thief Vila Restal in the science fiction series Blake.
For 12 years, Keating appeared as Reverend Stevens in EastEnders, becoming a familiar face at Walford christenings, marriages, and funerals. He often shared scenes with June Brown.
On Blake, Keating played Vila Restal in every episode. Big Finish described him as "one of the most recognisable and best-loved faces in British science fiction," while Producer Peter Anghelides praised his "cheery presence" on studio days.
Tributes from fans and collaborators have flooded social media following the news. Cult Edge called his death "a loss," while others remembered him as a "genuinely lovely man."
Keating's career spanned decades, including roles in Yes Minister, Doctor Who, and Midsomer Murders, plus a 2009 appearance in Midsomer Murders as Derek Painter. He also performed on stage in the play Are You Lonesome Tonight.
