Bank of England to redesign banknotes - and wants your help
- On Wednesday, a public consultation was opened to gather input on the themes for the Bank of England’s forthcoming 'H' series of banknotes featuring King Charles III.
- The consultation follows the Bank’s June 2024 release of new banknotes with the King’s portrait and aims to update the currency's thematic elements.
- The Bank identified six potential themes including notable historical figures, architecture, arts, events, innovation, and nature, and invites public suggestions on alternative themes.
- Over 4.7 billion notes issued by the Bank of England are currently in use, with a total value of approximately £86 billion, and the Bank has confirmed that only the reigning monarch will be depicted as a living individual on its banknotes.
- The consultation closes at 11:59 pm on July 31, after which the Bank plans to announce final designs and may seek further public feedback on specific images.
