Bitcoin.de Seeks New Model After BaFin Rejects MiCA Bid

The company is reviewing an objection or new application while seeking regulated German partners to restart trading for its 1.1 million users.

  • On Tuesday, October 6, the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority refused the MiCA authorization application from Futurum Bank, a subsidiary of Bitcoin Group SE.
  • Trading on Bitcoin.de has been largely suspended since June 12, 2026, while the licensing process under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation lasted more than 15 months.
  • Financial results show Bitcoin Group revenue fell to €1.59 million in the first half of 2026 from €3.78 million in 2025, with EBITDA losses of €3.25 million despite over 1.1 million registered users.
  • Instead of waiting for another license, futurum bank plans to work with regulated partners to resume trading "as quickly as possible," CEO Moritz Eckert said, with one firm acting as trading counterparty and another holding assets.
  • The company has one month to lodge an objection after formal service of the BaFin decision and may submit a new MiCA application at a later date, though no firm reopening date has been announced.
