Byron Donalds Backs Donald Trump for Nobel Peace Prize
SOUTH CAUCASUS, AUG 9 – Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to jointly nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize after he brokered a peace deal ending 30 years of conflict, with five nations backing his nomination.
- On August 8, President Donald Trump welcomed the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan—Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev, respectively—to the White House to unveil a peace agreement aimed at resolving their long-standing conflict.
- This peace deal followed a 2023 Azerbaijani military offensive recapturing the Karabakh region, and years of prior hostilities after Soviet Union breakup prompted a US-brokered settlement.
- The agreement commits both nations to cease fighting, open trade and travel, respect sovereignty, and establish a transit corridor through Armenia connecting Azerbaijan to its exclave Nakhchivan.
- Both Aliyev and Pashinyan commended Trump’s role in mediating the peace agreement and suggested jointly nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize, with Aliyev questioning who else would be more deserving of the honor than the U.S. president.
- The Norwegian Nobel Committee plans to announce the 2024 Peace Prize on October 10, while other leaders, including Israel’s Netanyahu and Cambodia’s Hun Manet, have also nominated Trump for his diplomatic efforts.
