Invited to NC's Delhi Protest; Will Announce Decision Tomorrow: Sajad Lone
The party will leave for Delhi on July 19 if permission for the Jantar Mantar demonstration is denied, Omar Abdullah said.
On Wednesday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah confirmed the National Conference will proceed with its protest in Delhi on July 20 despite the death of his uncle, Sheikh Mustafa Kamal.
Abdullah announced a fresh phase of protests against the Centre over the 'unexplained delay' in restoring statehood to the Union territory, timing the demonstration for Parliament's monsoon session.
Departing on July 19, the National Conference will stage its protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, though police have not yet granted permission for the venue.
If authorities deny the Jantar Mantar venue, the National Conference has prepared an alternate plan to ensure the protest continues during Parliament's monsoon session.
Regional parties have largely declined to support the protest; Apni Party chief Altaf Bukhari argued dialogue with the Centre offers a better path than confrontation, while other parties remain uncommitted.
