'Avatar: Fire and Ash' has star-studded world premiere in Hollywood
The third Avatar film features returning stars and introduces an aggressive new tribe with a villain played by Oona Chaplin, ahead of its Dec. 19 release.
- On Monday, the world premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash opened in Hollywood with Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, and director James Cameron attending; the film releases December 19.
- As the franchise reaches its third film, James Cameron is rolling out the third instalment later this month, mixing returning characters like Jake Sully with new ones in the Avatar franchise.
- The film introduces new antagonists including Varang, played by Oona Chaplin, and composer Simon Franglen said `I did say at some point I have run out of notes` for a score supporting a runtime of more than three hours.
- Critics who attended the Dolby Theatre premiere praised the film's visual spectacle and 3D, while some noted the story may be lacking; Courtney Howard lauded Cameron for delivering an exciting cinematic experience.
- The new instalment places more female characters at the story's centre and features plenty of action tied to fresh conflicts in Pandora, while Sigourney Weaver said it resonates with current global themes.
