Australian police find human remains believed to be missing grandfather
Human remains believed to be those of Chris Baghsarian were found 11 days after his abduction in a botched kidnapping targeting another family, police said.
- On Feb. 24, detectives found suspected human remains near Lynwood Golf and Country Club in Pitt Town, and forensic teams are conducting tests to confirm if they belong to 85-year-old Chris Baghsarian.
- Baghsarian was abducted from his North Ryde property on Feb. 13 by three intruders in what police call a mistaken-identity abduction; police say kidnappers targeted relatives of Dimitri Stepanyan, 37, a convicted armed robber and Proper Streetwear founder.
- Evidence linked a torched vehicle to the Dural vacant property where investigators found a derelict stronghold and forensic matches to tyre tracks near Wilberforce.
- No arrests have been announced and Strike Force Chobat continues to pursue leads, while Baghsarian's family are deeply upset and have requested privacy.
- The discovery, after more than a week-long search on Feb. 24, has intensified public concern as police link the abduction to west Sydney organised-crime networks, including the Alameddine crime network.
