Auqib Nabi Joins Team India Before Afghanistan Test, but Here's Why He Cannot Play
The Jammu & Kashmir pacer is among seven net bowlers added as India manage fast-bowler workloads and sharpen batting practice.
The BCCI called Jammu & Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi to join India nets ahead of the one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
India added six net bowlers after BCCI sources reported that premier fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna cannot train at full intensity following three gruelling games in seven days.
Nabi earned selection after taking 60 wickets in 17 innings for Jammu & Kashmir; he joins fellow net bowlers Gurjapneet Singh, Prince Yadav, Saransh Jain, Zeeshan Ansari, and Shivang Kumar.
The one-off Test sits outside the World Test Championship cycle, while chief selector Ajit Agarkar previously defended the squad selection by noting limited pacer slots.
Following the Test, India and Afghanistan will transition to a three-match ODI series, with matches scheduled on June 13, 17 and 20 in Dharamsala, Lucknow and Chennai.
