PUEBLO, COLORADO, AUG 1 – Atlas Holdings formed Orion Steel Companies to manage Pueblo and other steel assets, with 1,100 workers at the 145-year-old Pueblo mill renamed Rocky Mountain Steel Mills.
- Atlas Holdings completed its acquisition of EVRAZ North America, officially closing the deal yesterday and forming Orion Steel Companies that include the Pueblo steel mill and Canadian assets.
- This acquisition follows Atlas Holdings' announcement last month to buy Pueblo’s steel mill and other EVRAZ steel assets to expand its North American presence.
- Orion Steel employs 3,400 workers across a pair of steel plants using electric arc furnace technology and twelve steel product mills, including approximately 1,100 employees at Pueblo’s renamed Rocky Mountain Steel Mills.
- Doug Matthews, who spent 33 years at U.S. Steel, has been appointed CEO of Orion Steel, taking over from Skip Herald, who served as CEO since 2019 and will remain on the company's board.
