DETROIT, MICHIGAN, JUL 5 – A fatal house explosion on Detroit’s east side left three homes uninhabitable and forced utility shutdowns, with the cause still under investigation, fire officials said.
- Around 3:49 p.m. Saturday, a house on Detroit’s east side near Moross Road and I-94 exploded, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to a man.
- The reason for the explosion has not yet been determined and is currently being examined, with tests showing no natural gas leaks at the location or nearby residences.
- The explosion heavily damaged the middle house and two neighboring homes, all now uninhabitable, while utilities were shut off for safety.
- The 46-year-old man sustained burns on his upper body and was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
- Firefighters and Michigan State Police recovered the deceased woman under rubble, and officials found no other victims inside the affected homes.
