Pro-Russian candidate in the Romanian presidential election, Călin Georgescu, is rehashing false pro-Kremlin narratives about Maia Sandu's alleged dependence on billionaire philanthropist George Soros. This disinformation emerged on the eve of the 2020 presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova and was mainly peddled by pro-Russian former President Igor Dodon, socialist Bogdan Țîrdea, and pro-Kremlin media outlets.
