WORLDWIDE, JUL 28 – Anthropic will impose weekly limits on Claude Code usage starting August 28 to reduce continuous use and account sharing, affecting less than 5% of subscribers, the company said.

- The company imposed these limits due to excessive continuous usage by a small number of subscribers running Claude Code 24/7 and violating policies by sharing or reselling access.
- The limits include two weekly caps—an overall usage limit and a specific cap on the advanced Claude Opus 4 model—to improve reliability amid frequent outages.
- Anthropic indicated that the new weekly rate limits will impact under 5% of subscribers according to existing usage patterns, and noted that most Pro users will be able to access between 40 and 80 hours of Sonnet 4 within these limits.
- This throttling aims to maintain broad service reliability while supporting long-running cases via other options, with Max users able to buy extra capacity at API rates.
