Ann Widdecombe’s Home Shown on TV Days Before Fatal Attack
A repeat episode showing Ann Widdecombe selling items from her secluded Devon bungalow aired five days before her death, drawing public attention to the timing.
On July 2, the TV channel Quest aired a repeat of Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House featuring former Tory politician Ann Widdecombe's £600,000 Devon bungalow, broadcast five days before her death on July 7.
During the programme, Widdecombe gave presenter Angus Ashworth a guided tour of her Haytor property while selling personal items including a Japanese Satsuma dish. She stated, "I came down here quite deliberately to be as remote as I could."
Police discovered Widdecombe, 78, dead at her Haytor home after she sustained blunt force trauma to the head. A 26-year-old man initially arrested in connection with her death was released on Saturday and is "no longer part of the investigation."
Counter-Terrorism police are now leading the investigation after new information emerged. A 28-year-old man was arrested in South Yorkshire on suspicion of murder and subsequently rearrested on suspicion of terrorism-related acts.
Laurence Taylor, head of UK national CTP, said investigators are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry to establish the attack's motivation. There is no suggestion that footage of Widdecombe's home shown on the programme was connected to her death.
