Why Didn't the Emmys Nominate 3 of 2025's Best TV Performances?
LOS ANGELES, JUL 16 – Despite 14 Emmy nominations for the Star Wars series Andor, lead Diego Luna and supporting actress Genevieve O'Reilly were overlooked in acting categories, says showrunner Tony Gilroy.
- On the eve of the Emmys, Andor received 14 nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, yet only one acting nomination for Forest Whitaker.
- Overall, Andor collected 14 Emmy nominations this year, making it the third-most nominated Star Wars show after its late April 2025 debut.
- Despite the show’s multiple nominations, only two performers were recognized in acting categories, with only Forest Whitaker and Alan Tudyk receiving nods.
- In reflecting on the omissions, Gilroy noted, `I think the ultimate victory, is that these performances will be celebrated and discussed for years to come.`
- Having devoted close to six years to Andor, Tony Gilroy is prepping a movie to shoot in Los Angeles next year.
