Amsterdam celebrates its 750th birthday by organizing all kinds of fun things for residents. For example, all primary school children receive a book. You would think that would be nice, in these times of illiteracy, but there is also criticism.
The Chinese-Dutch community is "deeply concerned" about a passage in a free children's book celebrating Amsterdam's 750th anniversary. This is stated in a letter sent to Mayor Halsema today. It concerns a sentence in the game Amsterdam Pigeon Board, a variation on Snakes and Ladders, which is included in the book. On square 46 is the comment: "Ni Hao!
