LAFC Opens Leagues Cup, Hosting Mazatlán on Tuesday
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, JUL 28 – LAFC aims for a third straight continental tournament appearance with a strong home record of 6-0-1 in Leagues Cup matches at BMO Stadium, officials said.
- Beginning July 29, LAFC participates in the Leagues Cup as three dozen clubs compete through August 7.
- From July 30, the tournament features three dozen teams in an MLS-Liga MX format spanning 58 of 62 games with semifinals and final on Aug. 31.
- LAFC aims for victory in Leagues Cup, with Denis Bouanga as the all-time leading scorer with 12 goals in 10 appearances, and Sergi Palencia returning after Saturday’s loss.
- To progress to the knockout stage, LAFC must finish in the top four teams, advancing their Champions Cup hopes.
- Looking ahead, Hugo Lloris will miss Tuesday after traveling to France to resolve green card details, while Mathieu Choinière joined on loan from Grasshopper Club Zürich.
