Nigeria: Court Sends Ex-Minister Ngige to Prison Over N2.2 Billion Fraud Charges
Dr. Chris Ngige faces eight corruption charges involving over N2 billion in contracts and gifts linked to NSITF associates, with bail hearing set for December 15, court records show.
- On Friday, the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, sitting at Gwarimpa, Abuja denied Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige's oral bail application and ordered his remand at Kuje Prison until December 15.
- EFCC arraigned Ngige on an eight-count charge dated October 31 and filed on December 9, alleging offences during his tenure as Minister of Labour under the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
- Prosecutors list specific contract awards: Ngige allegedly awarded eight contracts to Cezimo Nigeria Limited worth N583,682,686.00 and eight to Jeff & Xris Limited totaling N362,043,163.16, while accepting 'gifts' of N38,650,000, N55,003,000, and N26,130,000 through his organisations.
- His lawyer Patrick Ikwueto, SAN, said the bail application was not ripe, while Ngige pleaded not guilty in FCT/HC/CR/726/2025.
- The case filed as FCT/HC/CR/470920.68/2025 involves allegations under Sections 17, 17, and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, covering conduct from September 2015 to May 2023.
